Avoid Over-Sentimental Wedding Favors
Melted chocolate, fake birds, engraved paperweights, and plastic figurines—what do they all have in common? These are wedding favors that most guests will end up throwing in the garbage. Too much sentimentality and not enough practicality will not make a good gift. Think of any weddings you’ve attended in the past. How many of the favors did you actually save, remember, or even keep? Probably few, if any. So rather than spending a large chunk of money on something that will not be appreciated, it is better to focus on choosing something that will add to your big day.
Edible wedding favors are a great choice and although they may not last long, they will leave a better impression. They suit a variety of budgets, from store-bought fare to gourmet chocolates, and can be customized for a touch of uniqueness. Inexpensive and creative ideas include fortune cookies with custom messages, picture printed cookies, or a treat from a location that is significant to the bride or groom. It is important to be mindful of the temperature and any guest allergies to avoid any unpleasant surprises though.
Another option is to choose a charity and donate in honor of the guests attending. The charitable organization can reflect something deep and meaningful relating to the couple’s relationship. Cards can be left at each place setting with some information regarding the activities and purpose of the charity. It is important to be sensitive to your guests, however, and ensure that the chosen charity will not prove offensive or insulting to anyone.
